A name that sounds like dessert

People call this place Bãi Khem, and also Bãi Kem. The name comes from sand as white and smooth as ice cream (kem) and jade-green water so clear you can see the seabed. The beach lies in the south of the island, in the An Thới area, about twenty-five kilometres from central Dương Đông.

From herring season to a world list

Before the beach's name travelled far, a 2013 newspaper article described it as "both poetic and rich in fish and shrimp, especially herring". In December 2018, the Canadian travel company Flight Network published its list of the world's 50 best beaches, and Tuổi Trẻ reported: Bãi Khem, Phú Quốc, ranked 43rd.

The resorts beside the beach

Beside the beach, Sun Group is developing Sun Premier Village Kem Beach Resort, on about 59.6 ha with a building density of just 17 to 21%, designed by DarkHorse (Australia) and AEDAS (Hong Kong). Right next door is JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, inspired by Lamarck University and designed by Bill Bensley.
