Live seafood in tanks, cooked the way you ask
Song Lê, full name "Nhà hàng Song Lê – Hải sản làng bè" (Song Lê Restaurant – Raft Village Seafood), is a seafood restaurant in the Hàm Ninh pier area, Rạch Hàm hamlet, on the east coast of Phú Quốc. The way of eating here is the fishing village's way: the seafood is alive in tanks, and guests pick the swimming crab, prawn or fish they like, then tell the kitchen how to cook it to their own taste.
The restaurant is large with an airy layout and room for about a hundred guests, so it suits families and big groups. In the meals diners have described, the table often holds herring salad, ốc hương snails steamed with lemongrass, swimming crab, tôm tích (mantis shrimp), grilled blood cockles, grilled oysters with scallion oil, steamed squid, grouper hotpot, seafood bánh canh noodle soup, and abalone, a dish one diner praised as rich and very good.
The old pier, the bridge that is gone
Song Lê stands in the Cầu Tàu (Pier) area, where the Hàm Ninh harbour bridge once ran straight out into the sea. That concrete bridge, rebuilt from a wooden one in 2002, was where fishing boats moored on both sides, and little by little the fish-farming rafts along the bridge were turned into restaurants selling seafood to visitors. The name "hải sản làng bè" (raft village seafood) at Song Lê carries a trace of that time.
On the morning of 3 January 2020, the harbour bridge at Rạch Hàm hamlet was demolished after an inspection concluded that the structure could no longer bear loads and was dangerous overall. The photos of the bridge in this article were taken in 2013, when it was still standing. Today you come to Hàm Ninh pier to sit in a restaurant facing the sea, watch the boats moored out there, and eat seafood just pulled from the water.

Hàm Ninh crab, and what diners have said
The dish to order at any restaurant in the village is swimming crab. Hàm Ninh crabs are small, with firm, sweet meat; since 8 February 2022, "Ghẹ Hàm Ninh – Phú Quốc" (Hàm Ninh Swimming Crab – Phú Quốc) has been a collective trademark granted by the Intellectual Property Office. The most familiar way to eat it is steamed whole, dipped in salt, pepper and lime.
Diners' reviews of Song Lê on Foody, written between 2015 and 2021, are mixed. Those who praise it say the seafood is fresh, the staff cheerful, the seats facing the sea lovely and the steamed dishes good. Those who criticise it tell of long waits for dishes and crab priced higher than buying from the rafts nearby. Read closely, the general advice is: pick your animal, ask the price per kilo and watch the weighing before the kitchen cooks it.
Quick answers before you go
Where is the restaurant, and how do I get there?
Cầu Tàu (Pier) area, Rạch Hàm hamlet, Hàm Ninh area, Phú Quốc special zone, An Giang province. From Dương Đông it is about fourteen kilometres along provincial road 47, thirty to forty minutes by motorbike or taxi. Once in the village, ask the way to the pier and you will be there.
What time does the restaurant open, and how do I book?
We could not find an official website or social media page for Song Lê, so the restaurant has not published its opening hours or phone number itself. For a large group, ask your hotel to call and book ahead.
How do I order without surprises?
Seafood is priced by the kilo or by the portion. Ask the price, pick your animal, check the weight, and only then say how you want it cooked, especially for crab, tôm tích (mantis shrimp) and abalone.
Is the harbour bridge still there to walk along?
No. The old harbour bridge was demolished in early 2020; most photos of the long bridge online were taken before then.
Which season is best?
The dry season, roughly November to April, when the sea is calm and it is crab season. In the rainy season, especially on stormy days, the sea is rough.
