A restaurant standing over the sea
Kim Cương is a seafood restaurant in Rạch Hàm hamlet, Hàm Ninh fishing village, on Phú Quốc's east coast. The restaurant is built on rows of piles driven straight into the water, its floor above the sea, so sitting down to eat means looking out at Hàm Ninh bay and the mountain range behind the village. In a photo taken in 2013, the restaurant is a row of houses with turquoise walls and green roofs, a sign reading "Quán Kim Cương" hanging at the gable end, and the water beneath the floor so clear you can see the reflection of the piles.
The way of eating here is the way of the whole village: customers pick fresh seafood themselves and ask the restaurant to prepare it, to eat on the spot or take away. Kim Cương appears on the lists of Hàm Ninh seafood restaurants in many travel guides, alongside names like Bé Ghẹ and Biển Xanh.
The restaurant at the head of a bridge that is gone
In 2013, Kim Cương stood right where the Hàm Ninh harbour bridge met the shore. That concrete bridge, rebuilt from a wooden one in 2002, ran straight out to sea; fishing boats moored on both sides, and little by little the fish-farming rafts moored along the bridge were turned into places selling seafood to visitors.
On the morning of 3 January 2020, the Rạch Hàm hamlet harbour bridge was demolished after an inspection concluded the structure could no longer bear load and was dangerous overall. The bridge is gone, but the row of restaurants on piles along the shore is still there. Guides updated in 2026 still list Kim Cương in Rạch Hàm hamlet, and the photos in this article are of the Hàm Ninh of 2013, when the bridge still stood.

Hàm Ninh crab and the village's seafood spread
The dish to order at any Hàm Ninh restaurant is crab. The crabs here are small but the meat is firm and sweet; since 8 February 2022, "Ghẹ Hàm Ninh – Phú Quốc" (Hàm Ninh crab) has been a collective trademark granted by the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam. The most familiar way to eat it is steamed whole, dipped in salt, pepper and lemon. The village's restaurants also make crab in tamarind sauce, crab salad and crab steamed in beer.
Beside the crab, a Hàm Ninh seafood spread often includes herring salad wrapped in rice paper, charcoal-grilled mackerel, garlic-fried mantis shrimp, grilled sea urchin with spring onion oil, ginger-steamed spiny snails, and grilled squid. Sea breeze across a timber floor, boats moored out there, and a crab just lifted from the water already on your plate: that is why people travel fourteen kilometres from Dương Đông to the east coast just for a meal.
Quick answers before you go
Where is the restaurant and how do I get there?
Rạch Hàm hamlet, Hàm Ninh area, Phú Quốc special zone, An Giang province. From Dương Đông it is about fourteen kilometres along Provincial Road 47, thirty to forty minutes by motorbike or taxi. The restaurant sits at the water's edge, where the old harbour bridge met the shore; go into the village and ask the way to the wharf.
What time does it open and how do I book?
We could not find any official website or social media page for the restaurant, so it has not published its own opening hours or phone number. If you are going in a large group or arriving late, ask your hotel to call ahead.
How do I order without surprises?
Seafood in Hàm Ninh is priced by the lạng (100 g) or by the portion. Ask the price and how it is calculated before choosing, especially for crab and mantis shrimp.
Is the harbour bridge still there to walk on?
No. The old harbour bridge was demolished in early 2020; most photos of the long bridge online were taken before then. Coming to Hàm Ninh now is about sitting in a restaurant on piles, looking at the sea and eating seafood.
Which season is best?
The dry season, roughly November to April, when the sea is calm and it is crab season. In the rainy season, especially on stormy days, the sea is rough and sitting in a restaurant over the water is less pleasant.
