Opened on Children's Day
On the morning of 1 June 2020, International Children's Day, VinWonders Phú Quốc opened its first phase on 27 ha at Bãi Dài. On opening day itself, the Vietnam Records Association (Hội Kỷ lục gia Việt Nam) recognised it as the largest theme park in Việt Nam. A few months earlier, the Vinpearl Land brand had been renamed VinWonders.
The park has six zones, twelve themed stories drawn from the world's civilisations and more than a hundred rides and attractions, over forty of them water rides. Today the park covers nearly 50 ha.
Six worlds behind one ticket gate
Đại lộ Châu Âu (European Boulevard) is a street under a glass roof, lined with European-style houses, with a castle at the far end. Thế giới diệu kỳ (Fairytale World) has five fairytale lands, with Chinh phục đỉnh Obelisk (Conquer the Obelisk), Đu quay Thumbelina (the Thumbelina wheel) and Aladdin's palace.
Khu làng bí mật (Secret Village) takes the Vikings as its theme: there is the Vũ điệu chiến binh (Warrior Dance) show, the Thử thách thần sấm (Thunder God's Challenge) ride and a suspension bridge thirty metres long. Thế giới phiêu lưu (Adventure World) is home to the thrill rides. Thế giới lốc xoáy (Whirlwind World) has a Hawaiian feel; VinWonders presents it as the largest water park in Southeast Asia, with Sóng thần Oahu (Oahu Tsunami) and the 175-metre Nọc độc mãng xà (Serpent's Venom) slide. The sixth zone is the aquarium, Cung điện Hải Vương (Sea King's Palace).
Under four seconds to top a hundred kilometres an hour
Cơn thịnh nộ của Zeus (Wrath of Zeus) is the first Firestorm launch coaster built by the Dutch firm Vekoma. The sixteen-seat train shoots past a hundred kilometres an hour in under four seconds, then turns through three inversions. VinWonders gives the coaster's speed as 110 kilometres an hour.
If that kind of thrill is not for you, standing beneath the track listening to the screams drifting down is an experience of its own.
A turtle that holds an ocean
From above, Cung điện Hải Vương is a giant sea turtle lying among the gardens. Inside is a three-storey aquarium covering 15,000 square metres, designed by Legacy (USA) and AAT (Australia), with an acrylic panel of about 200 square metres. VinWonders calls it the world's largest turtle-shaped aquarium. People on the island simply call it the Kim Quy (Golden Turtle) aquarium.
The aquarium is divided into five worlds: jellyfish, colourful fish, penguins, sharks and giant fish. There are about 1,260 jellyfish and about 200 penguins, including emperor penguins, and a tunnel that runs beneath the tank. Twice a day there is a mermaid show in the main tank.
The last twenty minutes of the day
The whole day at VinWonders builds towards one moment at dusk. At a quarter to seven in the evening, Once begins on Quảng trường Phượng Hoàng Lửa (Fire Phoenix Square). The story pits the Fire Phoenix against the Witch, as a hero sets out to find the Phoenix's feather and write a happy ending, with Pearlie the monkey at his side.
The show is staged by Quantum Creative Studios, with 3D projection onto the castle, smoke, fire and ice: more than thirty-nine flame jets, some reaching sixty-one metres high, 150 fog machines and ten projectors. It cost nearly 12 million US dollars to stage. The entrance ticket includes the show. Earlier, at five in the afternoon, a Carnival parade makes its way through the park.

Where is the park, and how do I get there?
VinWonders is at Bãi Dài, in the north of the island, within the Phú Quốc United Center complex, next to Grand World and Vinpearl Safari. It is about 20 to 22 km from central Dương Đông and about 33 km from the airport. From the airport, free VinBus routes 17 and 19 run to the T2 Grand World car park, where you change to routes V2 to V5 to reach the park. A taxi will take you straight to the gate.
What are the opening hours?
From nine in the morning to half past seven in the evening. Most rides close at six in the evening; the aquarium is open from ten in the morning to six in the evening. Once runs from 18:45 to 19:05.
How long should I allow?
At least six to eight hours, and stay on for Once. There is a two-day combo ticket for VinWonders and Vinpearl Safari if you want to do both.
What should I know when visiting with young children?
Many rides have height limits: Thử thách thần sấm from 145 cm; Chinh phục đỉnh Obelisk, Đôi cánh Icarus (Wings of Icarus) and Chiến binh đại bàng (Eagle Warrior) from 140 cm; most water slides from 130 cm; the aquarium from 100 cm. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
What should I bring?
Swimwear if you plan to visit Thế giới lốc xoáy, a hat and water. Food for babies is allowed; food for adults may not be brought in.
When is the best time to go?
The dry season, roughly November to April, has the best weather for the outdoor rides.
